Maths tuition is offered in person at The Maths Room NZ in Beckenham Christchurch or online anywhere.  The Maths Room NZ caters for for students from Year 6 - 13 as well as for people improving their skills for Defence Police Force entry tests, or polytechnic entry needs.

Overview

Maths is a key skill for everyone to have in preparation for living and working in the 21st century!

​

One on one tuition provides the chance for "conversations" about all aspects of maths.  All tuition sessions are carried out  in a 'mentoring' style which builds confidence in maths capability. Students are free to ask any question no matter how big, small or obvious! The goal for struggling students is to provide a mentoring environment enabling students to believe in themselves and their ability to succeed. The goal for competent students looking to advance their grades is one of exposing them to more advanced work, challenge them with problem solving and show the application of maths in the real world.

• The Maths Room is located in Eastern Terrace, Beckenham, Christchurch, however sessions can now be taken by students online so students all over New Zealand may apply to enrol. 

• The Maths Room is a specialist in algebra and calculus learning and can teach Cambridge and IB syllabuses as well as NCEA.

• Most secondary school topics will be covered in parallel with each individual's school programme, however sessions are all tailored for the individual's needs.

• Fees are $62 (incl. GST) per session for one on one (45 minutes)

• It can be arranged that senior students can take their sessions online during school study periods.  This especially works well for Year 13 students.

About the Tutor

Principal tutor Catherine Smith is a NZ qualified teacher with a bachelors degree in mathematical methods and a post graduate diploma in communication and has diverse experience which ranges from teaching basic numeracy through to polytechnic engineering maths and for a wide range of age groups and abilities.

Online

The online experience for students is very similar to the tutoring students receive in person.  Students do not require any additional software and Catherine, your tutor uses a write-on screen sharing platform in One Note. It is just like writing in the student books in the same collaborative way as if they were attending in person. This ensures that the coaching, mentoring style and the ability to pay attention to each individual's needs is maintained.
