I have been seeing Catherine since part way through year 11 and I am now going into year 13 statistics after thinking I was going to quit math as soon as I could. Catherine has greatly increased my confidence in math over the last 2 years and it has now resulted in me gaining an excellence in my statistics external at the end of 2023. The way that Catherine teaches her students is so thorough it makes me feel like I am the only student she teaches because she carefully makes sure that each lesson is planned out with whatever area I was struggling with. I would highly recommend anyone who is struggling with their math to go see Catherine because she has truly helped me so much in being confident with homework and tests :) Laura Smith

I began my tutoring at The Maths Room at the beginning of year 8 in 2017. I was not at all confident with my maths and struggled in school, therefore my parents sought outside help from a tutor.
From my first lesson with Catherine I already noticed my confidence level greatly increase. Her way of explaining problems and solutions was far clearer than that of any of my school teachers. I had a weekly lesson with Catherine all the way until the end of year 13.
By the senior years of high school I was enrolled in NCEA calculus and even achieved some merit and excellence grades in my tests.
Without the help of Catherine I likely would have given up on maths altogether. However, I am now studying a first year calculus paper at University.
I would highly recommend The Maths Room to anyone seeking that extra bit of help, it will take you a long way. Ollie Salt.

Maths has ended up being one of their strongest subjects at high school, and I would credit a large part of this to the one on one tutoring, and Catherine's great ability to relate to her students and tailor her approach to their specific needs." I had the privilege of being taught by Catherine for 2/3 years from 2016 to 2019 and Catherine also tutoring my brother for a similar period. After us both having trouble with poor teachers from St Andrew’s, Catherine was able to help me fill the gaps and more by setting me up for UC engineering calculus. Catherine is passionate about mathematics and it shows through in her tutoring. I would very highly recommended The Maths Room for anyone looking for mathematics tutoring. Michael Coats

Although I was reluctant to start maths tutoring, Catherine’s lessons gave me a different perspective on the maths work which was extremely helpful. Catherine was always willing to help and and made things much clearer. (Year 12 allgebra student) PJ

Oh Catherine! Jack just told me he got 4a in today's e-asttle test which is a huge leap from his 3p earlier in the year. He says that you make maths understandable. So huge huge thank you for making such a difference to my boys life.

Going to Catherine for maths tutoring has helped me pass Pre-Health Level 4, which has now given me the opportunity to get into the Bachelor of Nursing. I had tried three maths tutors before Catherine and I still couldn't understand how to do most maths equations. I found Catherine's way of teaching maths very simple and clear which is what I needed. I found Catherine only a few weeks before my exams and I still passed. She has taught me what to look for and ways to remember equations and how to approach word problems which I couldn't do before. I highly recommend her and will continue to use her for the future. SM

I cant thank you enough for your patience, understanding and putting up with me. I had always wanted to study maths but it was finding the right place. It took me years just to work up the confidence to approach this. I feel a changed person now and this has helped me in more ways than just maths. You were exactly what I needed. I’m a strong believer that its never to late to learn anything or do anything, its perhaps just the level you want to operate at. You’re a rare find. Thanks again. SJ

My daughter has been attending tuition with Catherine for approx 2 1/2 years. She really struggled with maths at Primary School and subsequently she had lost all confidence. She is now getting Merit and Excellences in her exams at High School. Catherine is extremely patient and caring and has given my daughter so much confidence and encouragement, it's been such a joy to see her blossom. I wish I had discovered Catherine years ago when my daughter was at Primary school. Highly recommended. SK

"I started getting tutoring from Catherine midway through year 12 as I was struggling with the material I was learning at school and the speed at which it was being taught. As soon as I began these sessions my skills really started to improve due to Catherine's expansive knowledge on everything maths, and the way in which she personalises her teaching style in order for you to really understand the content your covering. I also found that as I continued with the tutoring sessions I was better equipped with the skills and confidence to be able to teach myself more. I could then refer to Catherine for harder questions and details I didn't understand, allowing me to attain higher grades. Over the time I spent with Catherine in years 12 and 13 my maths skills improved immensely, resulting in the subject being far more enjoyable and giving me the skills to continue into tertiary education. "Catherine is a brilliant teacher of maths, able to explain complex concepts in a way children can understand. She has been an enormous support to my children through their NCEA exams, offering practice tests and answering last-minute email questions. My sons had been floundering in maths under poor teaching at their school but thanks to Catherine's help have flourished and are passing their NCEA exams with excellence endorsements. "The reason I go to Catherine at The Maths Room NZ is because she has helped me so much with my maths abilities. Without her I would have never have been able to understand and keep up in class. "Catherine tutored both my children in 2017. She had a great rapport with both kids and they found her extremely supportive. My youngest struggled with confidence but after just one term it was great to see her enthusiasm for Maths had returned. She moved up a couple of maths classes during the year due to improvement. "I can honestly not imagine trying to do Year 13 calculus without the help of The Math Room NZ. It is crazy to look back and see how much I struggled through Year 11 and 12 and then to see how breezy Year 13 was for me all thanks to the amazing service that The Maths Room provides. The one on one atmosphere cannot be replicated anywhere else and the environment allows students to ask all those "funny" questions without having to worry about what other classmates would think. The extra knowledge that you gain through this course is invaluable. Would 10/10 recommend to anyone who asks."

"Our daughter Sarah has attended The Maths Room for two years now. During this time we have seen her self confidence grow and her anxieties around maths dissipate. The one-on-one approach made her feel at ease and she developed a high level of trust in Catherine which improved her self-confidence and willingness to try new things. She has gone from describing herself as 'bad at maths' to telling her new teacher that maths was her favourite subject!
