Understanding Curriculum Levels
The New Zealand Curriculum has eight levels, numbered 1 to 8. One curriculum level covers two school years up until Year 11. This is confusing for many parents because NCEA Level 1 is at curriculum level 6 and NCEA Level 2 is at curriculum level 7 and NCEA Level 3 is at curriculum level 8. The levels are further broken down into three categories of progress labeled B for Basic,P for Proficient and A for Advanced across each two year block..
